You don't have to, but it's a shitload easier when you take the radiator out!

And if you are doing a 100k service, do the water pump, which means you're dropping the coolant.

The water pump may last 100k, but it lasting to 200k, probably not.

To change the crank and cam seals you have to remove the timing belt and **Undo the bolts that hold the cam pulleys to the camshafts** which requires a special socket or a really short rattle gun. Radiator must be removed for this job. doing any timing belt work on a impreza is too risky with the radiator in. Too much chance of something hitting the radaitor. Outback/liberty is abit better but still we always remove the radiator.

Also i wouldnt drive with the radiator cap half off. only drive with it on correctly. If there is a major leak you will know about it pretty soon. If you want to reduce cooling system pressure drive with your ac on.

Well Jim Hall DIDNT remove mine at all (and we changed all 5 seals) and i recall the conversation i had with him about RMS telling me it HAD to be done! I 110% swear by this as i was in my garage at the time too
