Cheers mate it does. Ill let her cool down and put some water in her for the rest of the day. Now i asked the guy at subaru and he said 5ltrs should be enough as you wont get all the coolant out of your system. I spent $50 on the bottle of 5ltrs im wondering if i should get another one or can i mix the 5ltrs with 2 ltrs of distilled water? Thoughts on doing that?

hahahaha when i got my coolant from suabru i asked for 'enough coolant for a gt forester' he also told me 5 litres (i was replacing my radiator) after filling it up i realised there was no where near enough so had to go back and get another 2 litres, when i asked him he he said 'oh, you never said it was a turbo' good to see they know thier cars as you can't even get an NA GT!

i personally wouldn't mix distilled water with your coolant as its already a ready to go premix (it will do you for today pre-flush, but i wouldn't drive around like that for a year)

don't forget to turn your heater to full hot before you loosen your bottom radiator hose to drain it

and don't forget to turn it to full hot when you fill it back up & bleed the air out

Now i know that neither of the cars have head gasket problems, so i was thinking that mayby the overflow bottle is not large enough for when the car is worked hard for long periods. Or could it be the radiator cap pressure?

I have got to the stage where i just leave it near empty now, and dont really have a problem with it. but just curious if anyone elses car does this and what they have done to stop it?
Mine does it too Tom...but not as bad if the level is about 1/2 way or a little less between the marks...though I probably don't drive mine as hard as you do

sorry for dropping in on this thread
With regards to flushing the cooling system
does the heater system stay open when the ignition is turned off ?
IE: the heater system will be flushed when the engine block and radiator are flushed with clean water.

yes in older models (99ish) like ours it does as the heater adjustment is just a tap that opens the flow of the coolant into the heater core, not sure about newer models with climate control, could be vaccumm assisted, i dunno

Ok well almost ended in tears just then. On orrong road my car went into a spasm after it decided to hit 97 degrees again. It almost felt like boost leak (which it may of been) but im not sure. Got her home flushing coolant tomorrow but im still puzzled. My coolant level is at half and i put half a liter of distilled water in her. Why still the hissy fit? Could it of been my PowerFC limp moding me because of engine temps?

we will find out tom eric, I'm thinking your coolant hasnt been changed for some time only ever been topped up and now your running a larger turbo and the rest its desintergated.

Looking in the overflow it was pretty much water. We will service the beast tom and get her running good again. Been thinking for your temp to get that high it maybe something else will check tom...
