Yeah. I've got anti lag but when you switch it off it goes into rotational idle for 60 secs. Probably would not be a problem in targa type events because the revs very rarely go low enough to trigger it. I dont like driving (on bitumen) with it banging and crackling away.

I got a price back from PPG. $2k pr for the rears. I imagine the fronts are very similar.

Hey Brendon,

re the anti lag launches I found the same thing with my RA. Much better out of the hole with it on. I set up a press button on the steering wheel I could reach with my thumb. Turn antilag on for launch and then just take thumb off to turn it off. If rotational idle kicks in your not trying hard enough!! Was also good at the end of stage to give the button a quick press to kick in rotational idle to assist the cool down.

Have to come and cacth up soon as I am toying with making a purchase.

Hunt around for a machine shop that is capable, I had billet axels made for my R180 rear end....cost was ~$400 an axel(assembled). Aparently its not that hard of a thing to do as blanks are avaliable in many sizes, all the shop needs to do is spline them and harden them.

....can`t tell you who made mine because over a few jobs they turned out to be arse clowns, not going back or sending anyone else there!

Buy mine so I can build either an evo 10 (if I can find a way to get it under 1500kg) or a new jap spec sti!

I rang the guy and apparently Leigh Hynes (RMS) is running a set in the rear of his rally car. If he cant break them then they must be unbreakable.....

Anyways $900 for a pair. He still wants a pair to copy. I think I will give him a go after christmas.

Anybody else want some made up?

Here is contact number for Turnaround Machining Services

John Short 0414 747 621

Leigh Hynes from RMS - his rally car has a set of driveshafts in it which John has made and even Leigh cant break them !!

Max also has a couple of cars out there with Johns shafts as well

They have a reasonable price as well.

Hope this helps

Doug,

I had a look last night and I still have the first shaft that I broke. I am going to give along with a good one I took out last night to the driveshaft guy to make me a new set. As soon as he has finished with it you are welcome to it.

I have often wondreed but I would have thought that Tarmac rallying would have more wear and tear on parts like driveshafts etc than gravel. I.e. all of mine have broken on launches with warm tyres. I cant imagine the rally cars have that much load / grip.

I am dropping them off either tommorow so we will see how long it takes to make me a set.

Cheers

Brendon

Thanks for that brendon.

It's often said that R180 diffs are only required for Tarmac, not gravel. But there are occasions when a gravel car will be in ruts 6" deep with tree roots and rocks in them, soft compound 205 rally tyres will generate some loading. Usually it's front outers that go though. Noobs booting it on full lock and the joints just roll out the side of the cups.
Also it seems to be the DCCD cars that regularly break rear shafts and DCCD wasn't widely used on gravel rally cars until the GD era. (and all the powerful GD's have the mega $$ shafts anyway) In fact I don't recall anyone using DCCD in a 5MT gravel car at all.
