TD05 20g is perfect for the 06 STi in my opinion, minimal lag, is more than enough for a daily driver and provides enough to be competitive on the track for money spent, perfect bolt on for the 2.5 with supporting mods.

It is an STi. I had a wrx previously, but can't seem to change my pic. Looking at some dyno graphs etc. I think the TD05-20g would meet my requirements. However I have found secondhand AVO400l and AVO unequal headers that I can pick up for approx. $1600. So thought that might be a better option? Also with regards to exhaust was thinking of getting a Hi-tech up-pipe (can get second hand for approx. $500) and an X-force cat back (new for approx. $900). Thoughts on the above options???

Not really. The TD06 can get a bit annoying down low, but once it spools it hits hard.

If I could do it all over again, TD05 would win hands down. It's got the low end performance and a descent top end to back it up. Look at Jaron's results as proof.

I might be wrong (first nightshift, bit slow ey), isn't the up-pipe the part that goes from the headers to the turbo? If so, You don't need it. waste of money except on i think bugeyes which had a problem with the cat breaking up and destroying turbo's...

What you want is a dump pipe + cat back. Biggest gains to be had are in the dump so spend you're money there. the rest is basically a straight through pipe. as long as its 3" it'll do.

agree ^

Had this set up and tested an 02 Rush Oiled filter and a standard paper filter back to back on a dyno. Paper filter resulted in a richer A/F ratio, implying it restricted air flow...used the oiled for track and paper for street = Win Win.

Do not use an oiled filter without oil, if you need to even think about this change hobbies to lawn bowls! Use a paper non oiled OEM item or a cheaper holden equivalent instead if your scared of a little oil. A lightly oiled 02 Rush or K&N filter will not kill your AFM, insert usual modifying disclaimer. BTW AFM's are over rated..if one fails = new motor =win all good.

The vibration from a poorly secured POD will kill them, but lets not revisit the Podders verses the Duct debate.

Woops, late night post. A hi-tech dump pipe is what I meant...

AVO 450s

Was created by AVO specifically to suit 2.5 capacity.

I called ASG today, and after talking to them and doing a bit more research, I am considering the FP20g. I think that will be the second stage though.
On a side note, ASG also mentioned that they do a TBE for $1100 fitted. Does anyone have this exhaust? Would be keen to have a listen?
Also, would the X-Force cat back bolt straight up to a Hypertec dump pipe? I'm not after something that is quiet...

I'd be looking at better headers than Hypertec? If you are going to bother to do that, do it once, do it right. You do have to pay for quality unfortunately.
UMMM

you do know who makes the Hypertec headers dont u?

they come from the same factory as Tomei and GTSPEC lol

Same material and same quality?

I heared Tomei header only made in Japan not OEM from MainLand China or Taiwan.
