Default 06 STi Mods

Well my car is on the truck on its way over here. So I am considering what sort of mods to do... Doing a bit of research I had come up with the following list. I basically want something that is good for a daily driver, a lot of torque, reliable etc.

Hypertec CAI
Hypertec Silicone Intake
Hypertec Headers
Blouch TD05-20g Turbo
Walbro Fuel Pump
Hypertec TBE w/ MSR Mod
& Verso Tune

I'm unsure about the headers and whether to spend a bit more and get a ProcessWest FMIC and CAI instead.

What are your thoughts? What sort of power would this be making? Would you make any changes?

Cheers,
James

I would expect about 280-300HP. I would stay with the headers and your top mount then save up for a FMIC.

300+HP, fair bit of torque on the 2.5L

That setup will blow your hair back i'd say.

2.5L love the VERSO tune.

Should be able to achieve 300HP with 400+Nm of Torque with the 2.5L.

CAI = waste of money, unless you want more induction noise.

I'd be looking at better headers than Hypertec? If you are going to bother to do that, do it once, do it right. You do have to pay for quality unfortunately.

Thanks for the replies guys. What headers would you recommend? And will I lose the boxer rumble with headers? Basically if header's only yield minimal power/torque gains, but you lose the sound, I would rather keep the sound...

Is the CAI really a waste of money? If you said it'll give you fuck all power gain - I'd say yeah i'd agree with you.

If you're going a bigger turbo, ie - TD05/TD06 which is drawing significantly more air that stock, you're gonna wanna re-do the whole intake imho. Not only to reduce the restriction but also in an effort to breath cooler air and therefore go a little bit futher with the tune.

Yes it is probably gives you a marginal increase in power compared to other bang for your buck mods, but for me it was all about getting less restriction on the intake side and gaining access to much cooler air (5c nights in the hills FTW)

I guess if you're considering doing a CAI, you'd be wiser to complete the rest of the intake path and go with a silicone intake hose as well, as this is the bit you really want to replace, particulalry with larger turbo than stock. The OE Turbo intake is pretty shitty and is a slap in the face to your new turbo.

Just don't oil up the filter (i am not oiling mine at all) to avoid AFM problems. On that note my AFM is seemingly all good again now with no issues.

Yeah the stardard airbox flows plenty enough air, get a decent panel filter to replace the stardard paper one and then do the silicone inlet, they flow around 30 percent more air than the factory one, this will also be a lot more stealth if the plod lift your bonnet up

With the headers, if you go equal length then you will lose the rumble but unequal length headers will allow you to keep it, your choice, i'd be looking into maybe some Tomei or APS headers, they should be significantly harder to crack than their Hypertec counterparts

The list of mods youve got there sounds like it will be a good all around package easily capable of 300+ hp and some 12 second 1/4's

Keep your top mount, get some good equal length headers (read: Tomei expreme) and as Adam said, keep your stock air box.

That combo will spool early and the torque will give you a descent kick in the ass.
