Exclamation Help: cars backfiring/hestiating when on boost

hey guys a couple of weeks ago my clutch started slipping when i hit boost, it would also backfire and sit at(like it was redlining) 4000rpm if i gave it shit. i just thought that the backfiring was due to clutch problems, but now that ive put a new clutch in it is still backfiring, coughing and spluttering whenever the accelerator goes down...

dads a mechanic, and he thinks its something to do with the ignition side of things (eg. spark plugs), but i pulled them out and there fine

but if anyone can help it will save me $198 to get subaru to plug it into their diagnosis machine

I drive a MY00 limited GC8

Observations:
-idles fine
-will drive without boost fine
-still backfires with the intercooler off (dad did it for some reason)
-gets worse in colder weather
-will backfire if i pump the accelerator when i am cruising in gear

Mods:
-3"TBE
-silicone turbo pipe
-apexi pod filter
-exedy OEM replacement clutch (if that helps)
