My99/00 AFMs are cheaper than other models. Last time I checked anyway. Call Regents in Osbourne Park.

run a test swap with some one who has the same car. that will garentee you have found the problem mate.

+1 AFM, that recently happened to mine, and sounds exactly the same symptoms. Too much oil on the air filter can do it apparently (although I have a panel k&n filter, not a pod). When I got the car back, I got the spare AFM and it was gunked up, not sure if even cleaning it will help?
