I wouldnt touch the OEM 08 STi TMIC. It will support lots of power before you'll need to upgrade it.

The OEM cooler is way better than a crap Chinese bar and plate TMIC.

I'd stick to the STi TMIC unless you start pushing big boost through it then the press the press joins can start peeling open

Bit of a crapshoot though, I've heard of some bursting at the seams, others seem to be fine...

highly unlikley big boost would cause the tmic to blow apart, this would absolutely be the result of a backfire on someones garbage NOS setup.

I know of at least 2 in Australia that have leaked at the pressed seams - boost in the low 20's.

Interesting.

I know of a lot of big boost builds with them and some epic boost builds coming with them. This is the first I've heard of them leaking, especially at 20ish psi (which is bugger all increase over factory). If you've got some links, post them up!

Regardless, if I had an 08+ STI I wouldn't be replacing the factory TMIC for anything else. To date no one has produced any evidence that the aftermarket units give any better gains.

People I know, you won't find "links" as such. Like I said, stick with the STi TMIC, but know that the press seals can be suspect - some people have had issues, some haven't.

Would a bar and plate possibly offer better flow resistance and faster spool times etc? I am likely to change mine so may get a before and after dyno run. Although mapping changes post fitment may hide some of the impact of TMIC changeover.
