boost problem....
Right guys narrowed the cars down to 3 i am picking form to go buy this weekend
anyway i am looking at a bugeye 01 wrx which has or has meant to have a problem with the olive thing on boost lines?? i have done some searchs on it and come to the conclusion that this is between the turbo and actuator??? not seen this on any of the classic i have had, the car is boosting at 5psi and no more and has a verso tune at 14.9 psi which to me is just slightly over std anyway. (should be at least 1.2 bar befrore fuel cut surely, why not set it there) is there anything else that could be making the car lose this amount of boost??? i am thinking hoses must be fine turbo is meant to be fine??? whats the worse case scenario it could be????? |

Get it checked by a mechanic for piece of mind. The variables are endless.

It just be that boost control olive. If it is missing it will cause a drop in boost.

No offence, but you're not really sure what you're doing, and you're not sure if what you do is right, so find the car you're really keen on and have it checked, an extra day won't hurt you and more importantly your back pocket.

I just wanted some ideas on what it maybe thats doing the problem i have my own ideas besides the olive thing ie hoses, boost solanoid, 3 port, possibly cracked turbo houseing an so fourth..
as for the cars (i am looking at maybe buying) not 100% sure no but i am keeping my options open and trying to get the best deal i can the reason i am so undecided in what i want is basically because in the uk i used to buy and sell cars (around 5 a month) but now i just want somat to keep and thats the hard part.... |

only way it would be the boost olive is if the thing has been removed. Reasons why it would be removed would be;
replaced split hose and didnt notice it removed to use manual boost controller. If you pinch along the hose coming from the turbo actuator you should be able to feel it. It could be that the ECU has gone into limp mode due to any number of reasons. Without looking at it by a decent mechanic that knows subaru you will be chasing your tail asking for an online diagnosis. |

so i really need some one to look at it with a laptop and read fault codes etc??
it has had the verso tune and did have a boost controller but i gather reading thru the guys older posts it was running right after the verso tune.... saying that only thing i can think of now (now the penny has dropped) is the boost controller being took out??? |

If you get a torch i reckon you'd be able to tell if the boost olive is in there, usually there is a little white mark on the lines to indicate where it's positioned too .. Pinch it with your fingers and see if you can feel it inside yeah?
It's strange that the car has been Verso'd (read, ECU Boost control) and that this issue has developed from nowhere considering nobody has mentioned that the turbo has been played with since Verso. You should be able to restore boost, i reckon just replace all the lines, and get ASG to have a look at the tune and then go from there if you like the car. Maybe knock some $$$ off the car for your troubles. Last edited by RichX; 22-04-2009 at 05:04 PM. |
