Default VF34 Question

VF34 with 1/2mm shaft play in and out. Is this turbo on it's way out or still got a decent life span. Apparently the turbo has done 15k kms. Anyone got any advice please.

You don't want shaft play side to side. In and out not as bad but I'm unsure if 2mm is too much or not. Some of that slack may be taken up when the turbo is filled with oil at operating pressure??

are we talking 1 to 2 mm of shaft play? Or Half a millimeter (0.5mm) ?

0.5mm of play in and out is normal for a second hand turbo.

2mm of play in any direction is a door stop.

Around $1600 - $1700 on Ebay.

Then you run the risk of a non genuine one.....

The Price on my near new VF30 is going up.....
Perfect bolt on for an EJ257 engine.

I got mine from Ebay, was an AU Seller, so long as you an see the printed VF34 marks on it and it's the new design you shouldn't have a problem.

There are some places which will option it up with a P20 housing for you as well.

Mate, i wouldnt be scared of a secondhand unit.

Is the 0.5mm your judgement of its travel? or an actual measured travel?
I would say either way that turbo is fine.

What colour soot is inside the exhaust housing? very black soot? slightly black/brown?

$600 is a good deal, bargain the bloke to $500 and you are laughing.

Steve.
