Default Which gearbox is suited for the track and 1/4 mile

Theoreotical question..

I have a short ratio 6-speed non-dccd box.

I am looking at changing g/boxes.

1) Would a short ratio dccd box be better for the 1/4 or would a long ratio non-dccd box be better?

2) Would a short ratio dccd box be better for the track or would a long ratio non-dccd box be better?

Cheers,

In my 02 STI I had to change into 5th just before the finish line. Needed just an extra bit of legs in the first 4 gears, however it will still hit 240km/h using every last bit of the red (fun) zone on long straights.

On a track it gives you good point to point, but you may find yourself a bit too 'busy'. Feels like you are forever changing gears and the less time spent with one hand on the steering wheel when you are flat out the better IMHO. Hope that helps.

My current my99 with close ratio 5mt has a theoretical top speed of 209km/h (3200rpm@100km/h in 5th ), but I am building it with short sprint work in mind. When I fit the turbo and other stuff (goal=330awhp) I can see myself wishing I had kept factory ratios, but you live, you learn you pay

Yeah I know longer ratios r better but what imeant is will the dccd I.e being able to direct the power to the rears better off the line compared with the normal power distribution with a long ratioed box.

Id go dccd so you can adjust your power ratio accordingly to try and iron out the over and understeering.

not the best of websites, but the people who build the drag'gearboxes for the rigoli's.

http://www.bmsproducts.com.au/

if your serious about drag racing, auto is your only choice for reliability & repeatability.

speaking of autos, how strong are the ones used in the mid 90's twin turbo legacy - can handle some launches?

Yes and I'm wondering if getting a better holeshot off the line is more important for the rest of the pass rather than saving onegear change.

Currently near the limiter in 5th across the line so maybe having longer ratios won't help as much.

Ramon I'm not that serious just want a nice solid 10. Trying to get it the easiest most pratical way. Plus autos r boring
