Wheel Spacers
Has anyone run wheel spacers for any length of time? Specifically ones WITHOUT hubcentric rings? Just want to know if there is any downsides or problems encountered in the long term.
I have a set of 10mm spacers (NON HUBCENTRIC) and thinking about fitting them but...... if there are issues that are known then I will get hubcentric ones and longer studs. I am only worried about stress on the wheel stds etc not rubbing issues as that can be solved. |
I know there was a guy with a 180sx who's wheel came off on the freeway after it's studs broke due to having these spacers. I would assume that it would put more stress on the studs (how can it not) so Hubcentric would be the way to go IMO.

Don't do it!!!!! It's the hub what holds the wheel in place, the studs just hold it in the right position & the nuts tighten it on, one launch & you'll either break the studs or weaken them to the point the wheel could drop off at any time.

Nah, it's a load of Boogie Woggie Shane. Plenty of guys run wheels without the correct centre hole so what difference is that?
On a race car I'd think twice (then probably still do it) On a road car, with you driving (ie; someone who maintains their car and knows if a wheel is not right before it comes right off) will be Ok. Having said that, we all know spacers are far from perfect, and probably slightly illegal. |
One time I disagree Doug...I want to see these on your GT Wags lol

^^^ LOL :D
My WORK wheels dont sit directly onto the hub. There is a space of a few mm between the inside of the rim hub center to the actual hub itself. The nuts center the wheel and have had no problem bearing the weight of the car and cornering forces. |
I just think that having the wheels right out in line with the guards looks like the shit! so I might go with hubcentric as I need about 20mm. Won't be doing it until I have the springs in to see how low it sits

you're a pimp daddy Shano :D

10mm is pushing it with standard wheel stud. You will just have to check how much of the thread is been used. I'm chasing some 5mm ones for mine which should be fine.
EDIT: forgot to say, spoke to a guy from tyre shop and he reckons that if cops find spacers its a red sticker??? Don't know if he was just bullshitting me??? |
would it be easier to just swap wheels with me Shane!? ;)
