Default Shimless Buckets + Cams for Ver6 Heads

Depending on what route i go, i might end up going to shimless buckets in ported version 6 heads. Proberly add new cams to go with it whilst i have them apart.

Wondering, whats a good brand (or should i go OEM) for shimless buckets, and what would a nice sized cam be? Heads have new retainers, valves etc.

Eric

It isnt from stock was only 03+ from my understanding, but im pretty sure you can convet the shim overs to shimless cant you? I was doing a bit of reading, and unless im reading it wrong, people have converted them. After all, the shim is just a piece of metal to make a spacing?

V6 STI are Shim under bucket which is just as good as shimless unless you plan on pulling 9,000 rpm often, the bucket retains the shims so unless the bucket is shattered the shim cannot move or become dislodged.

Cheaper too as you only have to purchase the shims to set up the valve lash as opposed to the complete (varied thickness) buckets for shimless.

The shim is there to set the correct valve to cam lash, each one will be a different thickness to the next.

Ok, hah, all part of learning i spose Thanks Ross. The only problem with the EJ engine is if it does spit a shim, its ancilliries off, engine out, heads off/open, replace shim, repeat. Rather annoying and i dont intend of revving anywhere near 9k.

shimless heads never fail anyhow, unless they run dry

Not sure, but id like some nice cams in the v6 heads. How much difference is ther between heads?

Im chasing some nice cams that wont make lift too high.....anyone have a particular prefrence. Looking at spending maybe $500-600?
