Lower revs doesnt mean less fuel consumption. It may need to have the throtle open more to keep it travelling at that speed. Get your car sorted out. Its clearly not working propperly if you think its terrible on fuel.

but... $5k odd seems like an expensive outlay just to save a few hundred rpm at 100km/h

The Liberty GT box has no speedo drive so no good for a Forester anyway.
Close boxes are fine for 2.0 litres cars. The long legged boxes are better suited to torquey 2.5's that are happier lower in the r/min.

Bear in mind that you will lose your cruise control. A lot of the Forester guys have found this out ( including me, Sorry Doug I forgot to let you know about this... ) due to something being different in the speed sensor. Since you are doing this for long trips, this may change your mind. Doesn't bother me as I did it for different reasons

Yes. All 4Gen Liberty and Legacy and MY08 onwards WRX STi do not have a provision for a speed sensor.

Burke, I'll be surprised if the speed sensor is the reason the cruise doesn't work. The sensors are the same in appearance and the speedo works. There were no additional sensors anywhere on your 5 speed so I'm wondering if the pull clutch set up has affected the clutch switch on the pedal?

What do the Foz guru's reckon?

As far as the Foz gurus its a little hard as there haven't been that many conversions done but the ones that have have lost the cruise control.
I'll dig into it a little more as when I first mentioned it to you I heard on the grapevine that it was to do with the sensor wiring and since it doesnt bother me I left it at that. I'll see what I can come up with.
