you'll be driving a truckload of miles to recoup the cost of a conversion by the fuel saving if any.
unless you have another reason for wanting a 6 speed?

There are a few more reasons.. mostly reliability and I do intend to kick my brother-in-laws butt out on the drag strip a couple of times.. we were messing around tonight and I reckon I've already got enough power to take him.. just not sure on breaking stuff :-)

If anyone saw a silver XT, silver VZ Ute and a Lime green falcon screaming along beach road tonight.. that was us.. lol

I'm still working out where to go with this car.. ultimately it's going to be my toy to play with, but for the immediate future it needs to be reliable and on the road most of the time.. just depends on a few things in the next 6 months.

I'd like to get the car incredibly quick and great to handle over the next 12-18 months.. part of that will be a 6-speed conversion. My brother-in-law's brother runs West Coast Imports at Malaga and he recommends getting a "C-Spec" gear box for it.. not sure on that though. Like I said.. I'm fairly new to the turbo / AWD game.. and as such I'm doing my research before doing anything.

Its the not usually the boxes fault when it breaks it comes down to how you drive. I ran around with 250kw with my std B4 box and it lasted about a year then with 260kw atw (2.5l TORQUE!) I engaged 2nd and it just ripped it to bits...but I was being a bit silly. Your box should be good for about 200kw

Having not long got back from a 4000km road trip.. I'm very seriously considering the 6 speed now.. it just plain flat needs it, I don't know why they didn't make it standard.

Why do you say it "needs" it?

I don't think the difference between 5th in the 5spd and 6th in the 6spd is that big!?

Having driven a WRX Sti with a 6 speed.. and on the freeway at 110kph it revs lower and just feels a lot better..

My 5 speed sits at 3000rpm at 110kph.. I'd like that to be lower.

go for the 6speed then... end of the day, the GDB series of wrxs are only good for parts and stronger factory enhancements for classics and foresters. LOL

make the effort and source the tall ratio 6 speed, I think its a jdm forrester box? They do about 2800rpm @ 100km/h.

the std 6 speeds do around 3000 at 100km/h. Someone go for a drive and find out : )
