Default Exhaust volume

Sorry guys, but its an exhaust question, did a search, didnt see anything thats specifically what Im after. (its always possible Im blind and missed it lol)

Currently, the car (MY02 wrx) has a 3.5" TBE XForce exhaust on it, while I love the note, I would like to quieten it down, Im probably looking at a better solution than sticking that little bung thingy on the end that came with it.

Is there anything I can get put in the system somewhere to quieten it down?
Or would I just be better off replacing it with a quieter system, and if so, which? (2.5" TBE?)
To follow on from that, the car has been Verso tuned, so with that in mind, would the car need to be retuned with either or both these options?

If it has a cannon, remove it.

Sports oval mufflers will give you a 'deeper' 'bassier' note - as opposed to a cannons traditionally 'raspy' sound at higher throttle inputs.

If it is sans cat, add one.

Another resonator i think will also help. But yeah - china systems are generally less well made, and loud, whereas a lot of the local stuff is a lot better, and with a better note.

Brent.

put a resonator somewhere in your exhaust this will quieten it down without affecting your power.

imo 'hot dog' resonators dont quieten things down much, better off changing the cannon for a offset style oval muffler or if you want the best of both worlds get a varex cannon

A hot dog well and truly knocked the edge off mine. Mostly at high idle on a cold start but it was enough to go from pissing the mrs off to her not minding it.
