Yeah, no problem. I've done it before to give close ratio boxes a better cruising speed in 5th. You just have a bit of a drop in performace changing from 4th into 5th.

It's no more work to swap it when the box is apart, all the bits have to come off anyway.
You need both gears that make up 5th from a gearbox the same era as yours. They changed the key size and the number of synchro dogs when they changed the case shape so early and late 5th are not interchangable. I'll have some matched pairs of long (Aus spec) 5th around here but I'll need a sample of the old gears.

It'll still go hard in 5th, but it's far from ideal if you plan on doing track days etc.

i can always bring them over for you to have a look at, im thinking of some long road trips an just like the idea of a better cruising rpm rather than it bein on boost all the time

might even give her a run up the drags an see how she goes, but to be honest if you think it might make to much if an impact i may leave it how it is.

Ok so i counted teeth on shaft and gears called maximun motorsport and have been told that they have discontinued my shaft and gear set?....

any ideas? im suprised if they have been deleted as im sure subaru make a lot of money from these...

any ideas? i will post the teeth numbers later as i dont have them here atm.

japan parts seem to list the bits i need but im not 100% sure if they are the right ones.
