Default 05 Sti and 06 Sti info from those who...

Hi folks (I've tried using the search function to no avail before anyone suggests) - I'm after the 'low down' from those who own 05 Sti and 06 Sti , basically the difference between the 2.0L vs 2.5L engines and drivelines.

- factory power and torque figure
- factory turbo used (model if different)
- potential for modification (i.e. is the 2.5L lazy in comparison to the 2.0L)
- driveline hardware (has one got DCCD and the other not)

Thank you in advance to all who choose to reply. Greatly appreicated.

Well I would love to launch into this one. Factory torgue and power figures published are rubbish but easy to get if you really want them, MY06 STI 206 kw @ 5600 rpm, torque around 392 Nm @ 4000 but when on hub dyno they dont get anywhere close to these figures. V43 turbo on MY06 STI and V39 for MY05 I think, potential for mods is pretty similar though some will argue otherwise I am sure, both have DCCD.
Search using words tuning, ecutek, autotronic, verso if you want to see what to see what members have done as far as re-maps, flashing, etc.

Cheers Dave. Yes, I've read all the Verso/ECUtek discussions etc. I'm heading down the path of a Verso however undecided on the 2.5L 06 Sti or the 2.0L 05 Sti. Ideally I have a preference for the newer model but the concensus I have received thus far is that the new Sti is 'lazy' if that maes sense.

Anyway I'm sure the moderators would appreciate not launching into a debate. Thanks for the general facts and run down.

'Lazy' please elaborate.............Have heard of a few 05 popping lately, haven't heard of an 06 letting go yet.

Lazy - as in, considering the extra 500cc, they should be making more power & torque (especially with the std turbo) than they actually do. Lazy, as in it doesn't like to be revved out & it's usually all over by 5500-6000rpm - not 7000-7500 rpm like the 2.0L. Lazy - as in, it can't handle the same boost as the 2.0ltr.

A few 2.0L's might of popped thats because there running huge boost, etc. Interesting to see how the 2.5L goes with the same boost, etc .
Talk to all the good tuners they will tell the same story, 2.0L way to go

The EJ207 is a revvier motor that can handle more boost, the EJ257 has more torque down low.

The my05 ej207 runs forged pistons. The my06 ej257 does NOT run forged pistons. It runs pistons called "hyper eutectic" or something like that. In terms of strength its about halfway between a normal cast piston and forged pistons. but unlike forged pistons it suffers less heat expansion, which means a smoother cold idle and less piston slap which many forged pistons do when cold.
