Default Light clunking from rear

The last few months I have been getting a light clunking feeling from the rear of my car when I'm either driving really slow ie. trying to find a parking spot or when I'm on the road and slow right down and stop and then again when I take off slowly. It's not a constant thing but it's getting pretty anoying not knowing what it is. At first it was right side only but now seems to be coming from either both sides or just the back in general. I have a couple of theories: rear struts, rear diff or diff mounts. I'm leaning towards the mounts but anyone have any other ideas? it's driving me nuts!!

Strut stiction, dry swaybar mounts, loose bolts, exhaust, diff, top nuts on struts...the list goes on...just do a systematic check...start with the swaybar...

do you have inverted struts? they are reknowned for making the cluncking noise, have a look at the underside of the strut, if there is a nut on there they are inverted, quite easy to take them apart, re-grease and the noise goes

I think the struts are inverted, my car is an 05 WRX.
The feeling seems to go away for a bit after I've jacked the car up!
I'll check it out.

Top mounts on struts, or if you have coilovers.. the pillow balls are probably noisy.

definitely strut stiction, if you dont have coilvers.

cant really fix, but spraying them with a teflon base lube makes the problem go away for a while.

Yeah sounds like struts. I got quoted around $550 by RMS to re-grease mine including wheel alignment.

Good luck
