Garrett T-76 turbocharger
Not sure if I'm meant to start a new thread or if there was somewhere already set up for these types of questionsso if it's in the wrong place I do apologise.
I have been given a practically brand new T-76 turbocharger and can't seem to find very much info about these apart from pictures so was wondering if anyone knew anything about them, and more importantly how does it compare with a GT3540r. All I have been told is that they are a big turbo but that doesn't really help much Thanks. |

Damn big!
From that can handle 38psi (2.5 bar)... And that's still in the efficiency range. Now can a EJ257 push enough into it to make it spool is another question...

Running the numbers... You would struggle to get anything out of the turbo.
Seems to be better suited for 6L cars running low boost.

Thats a very big turbo for a 2.5lt imo... If you want to go bigger a GT40R twin scroll would be ideally suited to that sized engine. Full boost around 4500rpm (twinscroll or 5-500rpm single scroll) all the way to redline... 600-700 whp turbo.
More than enough

jun ran a t78 on their 2.5 litre gc8 hero, 520hp @6600rpm, 700newts,
the t76 is obviously smaller, so i'd call it ample sized for your build.

I wasn't planning on putting it on mine, was more curious how it would compare to the one I had that's all. I'm more than happy with mine (for now anyway). But thanks for the info, will make for some interesting conversations around my place when people see it sitting in the garage next to the VF34 and TD04.
One thing I have been eyeing off though is a supercharger my mate has in his garage that saw life for about 2 months on his AU falcon before he lost his license for 2 years. It's a centrifugal type, effectively a belt driven turbo but was wondering how that would go filling the "hole" in the power curve until around 4000rpm when the turbo starts doing it's thing.....? theres a guy on nasoic thats done it.. Check the proven power section. Not much success so far it seems, but could just be a tuning issue..

Centrifugal style superchargers suffer from "lag" too, the type or supercharger that your going to want for low rpm boost is a roots type.
Personally, I think you barking up the wrong tree with that idea though, you would be better served with the shot of wet NOS that your considering. Obviously Joe beat me to it.......
