Default vf22/34?

hey well my mechanic gave me a ring today and said my TD04 is on its way out and i really dont want to buy another stock one because there fairly over priced and i dont want a second hand one.
My mechanic has told me too get the vf22 or the vf23 but after reading on this site for abit i have notice most people have been geting the vf34 just wondering which one would be better before i go and buy it. The only thing i know is the vf34 has more lag then the others but its got more power.
I have only got a stock My99 with 3inch and front mount.
much help appreciated because i dont really want too go and buy a turbo that isnt any good.
i also plan to get an ecu later on down the track once i get my tax return or even a uni chip for the moment
edit i have also searched but couldnt get much info

cheers Matt

A different turbo will require a tune either way, so I'd suggest either just buying a secondhand TD04 (which can be picked up for ~$150) and sticking with what you have got, or getting a turbo and ecu/tune at once.

Jezza
thats what i had planed too do but my mechanic is against 2nd hand turbos and reckons they arnt worth it which was why i was just gonna buy the 22 because he said id be able to put that on with out any problems and not having to upgrade the ECU for awhile.
So if i put the 22 on will i need to get an ECU straight away?

nothing wrong with a second hand td04. They are damn near indestructible.

The 22 is a LAG monster... prob not going to get any boost till about 4k once tuned....
personally would not get a 22 without a tune.... it will work and be fine on there as the car is now as long as you dont drive it over 3K rpm (you can still risk damage tho)

get a second hand one for now... and then decide on turbo when you have the money for turbo and tune...

You could put a GT35R on without a tune... or any turbo for that matter. Just drive below 3k rpm.

If you upgrade your turbo, you need to get your car tuned appropriately. Read: aftermarket ecu.
