Genome and Spec C would give you a stockish sound level when
normal driving then on WOT would let it roar!!!

Also depends if your only changing the diff back part as obviously
if you change the dump and centre pipe to larger diameter it's going
to make them louder.

Just get the Spec C one and try it out, if it's not to your liking someone
will buy it off you for sure.

are you talking standard spec c exhaust or optional upgrade spec c exhaust (genuine subaru)?

because,

the standard exhaust on a gdb spec c is the same as on a standard exhaust on a JDM gdb sti (of the same year)

From what I gathered he's looking at the "Cannon" style Spec C
optioned one.

Correct the one in the link earlier is the one I was looking at.

Are the JDM GDB STI catbacks different to the ADM?

Nope the Stock JDM STi exhausts are the same as the ADM ones, it's
only the optoined exhausts such as Genome, STi sports and the S20x
and RA-R ones that are the cannon type.

Those exhausts won't make it sound like a so called "Honda" unless
he goes with equal length headers.

Equal length sounds Porn!!!

I am yet to hear an exhaust on a subaru sound decent through a stock subaru diff-back.. and id say fairly confidently, its going be audible once you change the dump and centrepipes...

I just reckon you're gonna do all this "research" and spend $$s on a stock muffler that your going to drive around with for a few weeks with a proper dump/centrepipe and then turn around and say:

"Big brother, you were 100% right, I don't know why I didn't listen to you in the first place? This is possibly the gayest thing in the world and I can't believe I paid $$s for it!"

And then you're going to go and buy a reputable aftermarket "quiet" system which combined with a varex will be a way better option...

HAHA family dispute

Andy as said before just buy the Spec C cannon and if you don't like it then
it should be quite easy to on sell because of what it is and try something
else.

I do agree with the big bro kinda as stock STi ones do sound shit but the
STi optioned cannon ones sound completely different.
