Default SS Induction kit - re-tune needed?

Hey guys,

Did a search around on here and the interweb but could not find a real definite answer (apologies if there is something about this on the forums).

Need to know if I get the SS Induction kit (bigger ram air scoop + resonator replacement u-pipe) + STI air filter from Subaru would I need a re-tune?

I ask because I remember the newer wrx's being very sensitive to changes concerning airflow.

Thanks,

Shane.

To utilize the increased benefits a retune would be a given.

Even if it's just to chuck it on the dyno and see if the car agrees
with it for piece of mind.

Yes there could be a very minor benefit in retuning with this kit. Mainly from the change in filter than the scoop thing.

TBH, you will get a couple of kW from this. Not worth the cost of a tune. Also, see if anyone has any data to show a larger air intake will give any benefit before laying out the money.

I'd be willing to bet most of the gains are in the change of filter.

The main point of a retune would be safety rather than performance gain...

Safety maybe...

Big ram scoop - $4-500 wasted money.
Dyno time to check AFR's - $100-300 wasted money.
STi panel filter causing big bada boom? Doubt it.

Saying that, happy to see someone post results that the ram scoop thing actually makes a difference.

Ah ok these are much much clearer answers.

It (the tune) would not be worth it unless I did some more work to the car (intercooler, turbo, etc) which I am not planning anytime soon, im having enough fun getting used to the car's current power/torque after just an exhaust and tune a year and a bit ago

Thanks Kato, Nauli and JDM_STYLE, much appreciated

On that then...

Why do you want this intake? If you haven't purchased it yet, I'd look at other things to spend money on first.

I was interested in it as an affordable and easy diy mod, but I didn't know whether it required a tune or not. Now that I know it does need one to be on the safe side, I'll steer clear as for that kind of money I would need to spend to actually get it done is just not worth the expense.

Sensible thing to do would be to save up for a rear sway bar + links after new wheels +tyres are fitted next week-ish.
