Default No Boost/bad idle 95 wrx

Hey guys was just driving home with the missus today and the car was driving fine, switched it to high boost on my EBC and before it even hit boost there was a loud backfire and then it started running rough and very rich. The car won't hit boost (Obviously now back on 8psi) as soon as the boost guage reads that its about to hit boost it drops rpm and splutters.

I thought no worries probably just b lew a cooler pipe on the FMIC. Nope they are all still attached fine.

Tried unplugging the afm and it doesnt change anything (all that happens is engine light comes on).

I did notice that there is no vacuum hose attached to the solenoid on the injectors but I dont think that has been on since we got the new motor put in or even before?

Any ideas?

EDIT: Found a vacuum hose fromt he manifold that was going nowhere so put it onto the solenoid and the car was idling lower but I can tell there is a big missfire.

Double check all cooler pipes/hoses.

Sounds very much like a cooler pipe has come off. You've possibly split a coupler between the alloy pipes. Check and double check.

Ive already been over them several times and cant see anything, that was my first thought aswell.

Its wierd because I didnt even really hit boost so its not like the car was under stress or hard acceleration or anything.

when you hit boost can you hear anything leaking ? this has happened to me before, the silicone pipe to my fmic split and there was a rip in it. Double check for splits in the piping

No worries, at this stage I'll take any ideas, even if it is for the third time lol... This is doing my head in. I've tried to take one coil pack off at a time to see if I can pinpoint the misfire but they are a mission to get to.

I'm going to try some afm cleaner and contact cleaner to see if this helps at all, also any tips for unplugging the wires to the coilpacks? Things are a mission to unplug. Now another question, wouldna misfire stop a turbo from spooling?

Hey bud,

Just a thought. BOV stuck in the open position?

The old Turbosmart one on the STI actually came off a couple of months ago, prior to me changing it back to standard. I had exactly the same symptoms as you describe.

Just throwing ideas around.

Simon
