Headgasket and build questions
The new motor we put in seems to have blown a headgasket so I've strews to pull the motor out to strip down and freshen up. I'm looking at using some cosworth metal headgaskets and was just wondering what headgaskets you have used on your build an if these gaskets are worth buying. It seems the headgaskets seethe weakpoint of the ej20g's so I would like to strengthen that area as eat I can. I will be sending the heads off to clean up and skim if needed.
Also while I am there is there anything else worth upgrading. The aim of this car is to be a daily with trackwork on the side and for bow we want to keep to standard turbo running 10psi low boost and around 15psi high boost. I have considered a set or arp headstuds but again I want some opinions from those who have used them to see if it's worth it. |

207 wont work with early head only from 98+ just use subaru gaskets, like you said its a budget rebuild..... no need for cosworth. my bottom end rebuild is costing my 7k correct 97 wrx was tuned for 12 psi

I do not understand the need of low/high boost for this application.

i used subaru gaskets, and have been told mms and rms use the same
its a certain type that are a lot thicker than normal ones, cannot remember the part number although that is on a 207 |

We don't have the coin to convert to a 207 this is my fiancée daily and basically doing a freshenup. I'm doing it myself. So are the Subaru gaskets better than the cosworth gaskets? It's not that much difference in price so I'd like to use the best.
As for what I meant by other parts insert of meant are there any other realist parts on these motors? For example if the big en bearings are a weakpoint the $200ish it cost for better quality bearings aren't much since it will be apart. I'm not looking to through $2000 worth of forties in or anything as we are just looking for a reliable motor we can boost at 15psi and not have to worry it's gonna blow another headgasket or anything. just want a reliable mildly tuned daily. Edit: the high low was what my fiancé wants, 10psi for everyday driving. 15psi for track days. Last edited by doadrift; 02-08-2010 at 01:20 PM. |

As long as the mating surfaces are clean and flat, and head bolt torques are as per factory spec, you won't have an issue. |

but you should do this. use stock gaskets and make sure the rebuild is done properly.
