Default Radiator Problem?

Hey guys,

Recently i have come across what i think might be a bit of a blockage but not 100%...

Basically my upper radiator hose has a constant flow of cool-ant, when i turn my car off after driving the radiator hose is normal temperature but its VERY swollen, i check my lower radiator hose and its completely normal temperature, as in cold as in nothing went through it,

I have had a talk with a fair few people now and there could be one of two possible outcomes of this.... blockage in radiator or therma state may be broken down the bottom.

Would a complete radiator flush fix the blockage?
How much is a new stock radiator?
How much is a stock therma state?

if your top hose is swollen...id replace that asap
but more then likely your thema stat is seized and will need replace..im guessing there roughly $10-15..does your car over heat?

and for the radiator..who knows, if you have a spare $200-$300 id replace that also, so then at least you have a new/fresh cooling system

When you say therma state/stat, you do mean thermostat, right?

Thermostat -repco, supercheap, subaru.
Can test it by putting it in a cup of boiling water.

hey wilko, i can sort out a thermostat, you got the hose off me on the weekend. DONT put any thermostat into boiling water, you will kill it! slowly bring a pot of water to the boil with the thermostat sitting under water but not on the base of pot. Not one car instantly boils.

Basics: If the thermostat is 'stuck' shut.....It'll be overheating after about 10 mins of driving. closed thermostat means zero coolant flow through the rad.

Sounds like your top hose is fubar (swollen), replace it asap.

re: hotter top hose--- heat rises.

after driving all the heat soaking out of the block goes into the coolant.....the hot coolant rises up through the top hose as the system thermo syphons.....cooler er coolant is pulled in through the bottom hose.....normal.
