Replacing the whole radiator with an all alloy unit will actually be cheaper than removing the existing radiator and taking to a radiator specialist to get the end tank replaced.

Just don't cheap out using cheap coolant in an all alloy rad. Genuine coolant or the Castrol concentrate to mix yourself would be the best. And flush the old coolant out of the block too. Mixing different coolant brands is not good.

Hmm alritey. Well, if it is the end tank (is there any way to be certain?), sounds like replacing the radiator is the way to go. What sellers have people used off ebay. Would rather go with someone that has been dealt with before.
For a person with minimal mechanical experience, but fairly patient and keen to give it a bash, would replacing the radiator be out of my league?
One final question...i think...I'm not going to do any harm to the engine if I keep driving it, as long as I keep topping it up with water as it leaks out?
Thanks for all the info!!

I bought one from these guys:

http://stores.ebay.com.au/speedmaster-australia

I just checked their store and they're only showing GDB radiators - might be worth asking where the GC8 one went.

These are the instructions I followed:

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...h-coolant.html

(Later model Impreza but similar setup.)

No you wont do any damage, just watch your temp gauge and make sure it dosent get close to the red. yer its a simple DIY take's bout 5 minutes if you know what your doing, bout 10 to 15 if you dont. Just look at what you have to take off to make it easier to get the radiator out, thats how i look at things when i'm working on car. no need to struggle

I just drove home, and gave it a bit of the old fast pedal to try get it hot/pressured enough to see the leak. It's definately leaking pretty quickly, but I still couldn't see where it is coming from.
Any ideas how i could confirm that it is infact the end tank that is busted...
I also don't see how it could be related to my flat battery this morning. Could the fans have come on? Was pretty buggered last night so may have not noticed it, but i'd be surprised, would normally pick up different sounds.

I just used martin @ 'Express Radiators' in welshpool for my bmw 318i.

hands down the best service and same day supply.

was not expensive at all. the radiator was $200 shipped from USA Vs local supply $300.

^^ Thanks for that. I've been doing some ebay hunting and there seems to be a pretty big choice.
Radiator 1 - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/alloy-aluminu...#ht_1465wt_913

Radiator 2 - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ALLOY-ALUMINU...#ht_2919wt_913

The first one is based in Australia, so if i need one, I will probably go for that one. But the second one seems to have a better written advert. Anybody dealt with either of the sellers before (The first one is asi_performance, and the second radiatorwarranty, to save people checking on the links)

The first one is the one I bought for my own car.

I nearly bought the ASI one but I'd been having trouble with some of their silicone bits (there's an active thread on this at the moment) They didn't get back to me in time so I bought elsewhere.
