difference in actuators?
As i have been looking around comparing turbos and couldnt but notice that some turbos have .8 bar actuators others have 1 bar or sometimes a 1.2.
What would be the reason be for say getting a 1.2 over a .8? dont boost controllers controll the actuator? Is it something worth upgrading? PS I tried looking for an answer but cant find one. |

They have stiffer springs so they hold the wastegate shut alot better than the weak stock ones. Boost controller does control it but at high boost you don't want the wastegate cracking. I've got a boost controller & with the stock wastegate it still made dealt shaky boost at the top end because the spring wasn't holding the tight seal. New actuator holds tight right to redline.

even the IHI turbo have crap actuators? guessing to upgrade it u wouldnt need to take the turbo off right? what type of boost pressure were u running to crack it?

Not crappy actuators, just weaker springs. Guess they don't see the need to make it better than it has to be for Joe Public.
Replacing is easy, remove circlip/pin, undo bracket & vacuum hose, then reverse for new one. |

Higher pressure rating = stronger spring = hold boost on for longer without it tapering off = more skids.

so going by that they are weak, does that mean if u plan on running boost higher than there rating best to go for 1.2 atleast? do they get much stronger than that havent heard of anything stronger. If u were to put in a 1.2 bar actuator can u still run at 1 bar safely? My boost does hit 1.4 then tapers off to about 1.2 would it help or is the vf34 at its peak?

Get the strongest available really, no point buying 6 McNuggets when you'll be needing 10 later.

if you have 1.2 bar actuator, i think thats the minimum boost the waste gate will open at. Controller can increase that but your never going to be able to limit boost to less than 1.2
