Billet vs Cast Compressor Wheels
Hey Guru's,
Did a quick search on here and can't see anything on the subject, and it is specifically relevant to me right at the moment! I am deciding between 2 turbo's for the Lib and unsure on what, if any advantages there are to going with a billet compressor wheel over a cast one. And, if there are noticeable advantages, are they worth shelling out an additional $800 for? Deciding between a Zage TD06 20G(cast wheel) and a Blouch TD06 20G(billet wheel). Aiming for 300.1hp @ the hubs if that's at all relevant? Will be running TMIC.

Something which I've yet to see any new age turbo supplier provide, is back to back results. Same car, same dyno, same scenario, new huffer.
Your results will always be speculative at best, until you have hard back to back evidence. It is all heresay. Would greatly appreciate being told otherwise, but yet to see it.

Garrett did a direct comparison with minimal differences between the identical wheels in both cast and billet form.
Results here --> http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob..._Machined.html Makes me lean towards the Zage TD06, as $800 is a fair increase for minimal differences in performance.

If the compressor wheel is identical, there is no difference.
Billet = machined from a block of aluminium into shape Cast = cast (duh ) into shape If the shape is the same, they will function the same.

Who is Zage? China? Id say Blouch, not just because I have one, but a) proven performer, and b) Never heard of Zage.
A turbo of the 06-20 flavour should hit the goals though. That was my goal too, (300+), and it did it easily. That said, different engine and whatnot though. Best-o-luck! Brent.

Fair enough... Thanks for the clear and concise feedback lover!
So... That brings me back to brand only... Zage vs Blouch? Any definitive opinion there? Considering the $800 increase for the Blouch? And the fact that I'm not going for a Tino-Spec build here, I'm strongly leaning towards the Zage... EDIT: for the record, Zage = GT Pumps... but direct manufacturer and significantly cheaper than through GT Pumps for me...

Garrett did a test comparing cast vs billet compressor wheels. Same shape wheel = same flow.
The only difference was the billet machined wheel was more durable in high stress conditions requiring long service life. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob..._Machined.html

Ahh okies, thanks for edit Jimmy.
GT-Pumps guy, (Mark? for memory?) normally only sells stuff he knows that works. So the Zage might be ok? Scour Rexnet as well, if you havent already, for results/opinions. I would say that billet/cast aside, a GT-Pumps snail and PSR's Blouch should be same/same in the 06-20g flavour. Its gonna be a stealthy giant killer once she's done... Brent.
