Hyperflow cold air intake
Hey guys
I have an 01 Subaru liberty b4. I'm starting to do it up a bit and am looking at cold air intake systems. Being a b4 there's not much around to bolt straight on. There is one company called hyperflow which do a pod filter and intake pipe. Does anyone know much about this brand. I don't want to buy crap and it was quite cheap. |

I would avoid this mod for now. Not because its hyperflow ( I have owned one on MY07 Lib) but because it will net you virtually nothing aside from cool intake sounds.
Your car would be pushing 10 years old now, so how many kms have you got on the clock if you dont mind me asking? Oh and I moved this thread from intro to mechanical section. You might want to start another thread in introduction section with a bit about you and the B4, and a couple of pictures of it. Welcome aboard.

Thanks mate I did an intro thread a couple of months ago when I first joined. It's done 98 000km. It has a 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust cat back system and ecutek type 2 tune

Will definitely help in summer. Bit of a prick to fit as you need to remove all the splash guarding from inside the wheel well to remove a little brace for the bumper to get the air resonator out.
With those mods you already have, the standard intake and filter will be causing some restriction. Dont expect huge gains with JUST the intake, but I have those 2 mods of yours and the intake and I dyno'd at 185kw atw.

Pretty sure Nick is mostly after the noise, and he is planning on doing additional mods to get the most from the change...
Dude, Hyperflow is a decent brand and the kit should do the trick, but as Dave is eluding to, it's worth getting the tune looked at after doing major mods just to make sure the ECU isn't pushing the motor too hard! The last thing you want is a popped motor!

Haha I wouldn't say no to a bit of engine (air) noise Jimmy. Is there any danger of that happenin by just adding a cai. I would look at getting it retuned but not till after the cai and the dump pipes

save up and do all your mods at once, then get a tune, much safer and cheaper than tuning after every little mod.

All of that said, there is a school of thought as Chad has said above, that it is "better to be safe than sorry" and there is definitely merit to that approach! My feeling is that with this particular mod, you may be playing it "overly safe". My thoughts anyway... I'm sure there are others with differing opinion.

Yeah, I think it may have been a happy dyno. Was done in Adelaide before I moved to Perth. May not be quite 185kw after doing a 14.2 @ 99mph on my first try at the drags! (shit driving though!)
end thread drift...
