definitely use genuine oil filter, and i would suggest using genuine Subaru oil. Failing that Castrol fully synthetic 10w-30 (same as genuine). As previously stated a can of upper engine cleaner. Trans oil should be 75w-90 Trans axle oil, I would suggest Castrol Syntrax, must be GL5 minimum though. Do upper engine cleaner after the oil change as you need to rev the engine to clear it out, not a good idea with low oil

I'd recommend topping engine up with manufacturer recommended oil (before oil change), and then doing the UEC. Once UEC'ing is complete, then dump contaminated oil and change filter.

While your on the UEC subject... just wondering how you do it... like where do you spray it into?

Yes it matters. Do it before the oil change. The chemicals in the upper engine cleaner are pretty nasty and can contaminate your oil.
