Was just driving home and my whole gearbox and difff started banging and shuddering. so car is now off the road needing to get fixed... im looking for a new gearbox and diff and i think also tail shaft too.

just wondering if there are any workshops out there that do payment plans on fixing your car.

Can i claim this problem on insurance?

1. No workshop i know will do credit. easiest way to go backwards
2. your sure its the box, you have had a look in side to see?
3. best option is to get a second hand box and put it in yourself and friends.
4. dont drive like you just did.

Ok... Repair plan:

a) Keep the car OFF the road until sufficient monies are present to afford to fix car with all quality parts. Not forever scrimping with 'this and that', looking for cheap fixes, etc.
b) Stop spending money on in-car entertainment thats not reqd. If the music is loud enough to be heard at a comfortable level where you can still communicate, (speak) easily with your passengers, its loud enough.
c) Drive car knowing after quality repairs it *should be fine.

*Disclaimer on should... Dependant upon usual factors, plus driving style, etc.

insurance will not cover this.

Buy a daily, best thing i ever did. if car breaks/goes boom it isn't going to effect you as much.

I'm pretty sure that is not covered by insurance, they don't normally cover component failure. Had a case of a guy whose exhaust cam gear broke and bent all the valves, insurance company wouldn't have a bar of it. I know everyone on here hates dealerships, but a lot of big dealerships do a thing called 'certegy' easy pay, its like finance for mechanical repairs. Fixed now, pay later.

Correct me if I'm wrong John, but dealerships are only going to use new parts, plus factoring in crack labour rates its going to be cheaper to get out a personal loan then going down the dealership rout 'specially when you have to factor in overheads compared to smaller operations?'

I'd look at going through the STechnic rout myself wrxii, getting a quote, and seeing if you can either get funding from your parents or a financial institution.

Unsure how this went or how your other issues occurred but possibly time to re-adjust your driving style or handing out the keys?

I'd take the dealership 'certegy', option as a last resort, but not rule it out all together.

It depends what wrong with the car i guess, not having seen the car its just speculation, but if it was more economical to get a second hand box (undoubtably cheaper then rebuilding with new parts) then that would still be an option. I won't deny that dealerships are more expensive. Probably preferable to getting a personal loan for 3-5 yrs. If the bank would even finance the amount required. Best idea is to get quotes and start saving (and buy a pushie)!
