Default Immobiliser issues... help!

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any advice I could use. I have been having a lot of problems with trying to start my rex, I jump in, enter the code, turn the key... and nothing!

Took it to my mechanic, he checked everything and identified it as an immobiliser issue, either the transponder in the key or the antenna.

So, I took it to Subaru and explained it all, they have come back and said that there is nothing they can do, I just need to get in my car and "jiggle" the key in the igntition until it starts OR I have to take it back to them so they can disable the whole alarm system and I just wont have one at all.

Is anyone else having this issue? I have looked at older threads and there was no mention of completely cutting out the immobiliser.

Muchly appreciated!

Sounds like a very similar problem to what i had a few days ago that was fixed today.

Tell me, when you insert your key into the ignition do you hear a clicking sound inside the dash ? and does the red key light in the dash disappear?

I had this problem and i did not get the clicking sound in the dash but it only happened intermittently but the Brant and the fuel pump would work and prime as normal but cant start the engine.

How i fixed mine was to install a KEY INSERT SWITCH PATCH HARNESS that was bought from subaru for about $13. part number SAA9003.

Problem solvered

Tell us more about what you see and hear in the dash.

Cheers

Gary ..

To which Subaru dealer did you take it?
I'm reliably informed that the best (only?) dealer to take it to for Brant issues is City Subaru since they actually have someone who knows something about them...

Thanks guys! All very useful

I have no clicking noise, but the fuel pump does prime and that's about it. If I keep inserting the key it eventually works, but needelss to say, it's a major pain!

I took it to Melville Subaru, that's where I bought the car and they have told me it's too hard to get the parts in and need to disable the alarm. So I have taken it to my normal mechanic to get it fixed... fingers crossed!

definitely sounds like key-in switch issue as stated above. Don't go spending money getting your alarm disabled. Also as stated for the sake of a $13 dollar part (the patch harness) which takes minutes to install. If the key warning light doesn't go out the its definitely the patch harness needed. otherwise if you enter the code, the keypad lights go off as they should and still no crank, its probably the main module. Really any dealership should be able to diagnose this, even if its just by swapping out known working modules.
EDIT: All dealerships should have alarm parts (both modules, harness's, keypads, etc) in stock. I'd be very suprised if they didn't

I had my Brant system removed completely from my car. Same issues as yours. Jump in and it won't start and it's extremely intermittent. Does it occur when you've driven the car leave it for a few minutes and then jump in again and it won't start? The system gets too hot so car won't start.
Cost me 500 to remove it so hopefully you'll get a cheaper price!
