Passenger side of the gearbox there is a plug you need to take out with a 10mm alen key.
Then screw a bolt into the hole behind the plug. And pull the rod out

^^^ WHS, on the left side of the gearbox bell housing there is a large allen head bung screw. Undo that and screw a 10mm (M6) bolt into the end of the pivot pin inside, slide the pin out, then lift the clutch fork up until it disengages with release bearing. THat may be whats stopping the engine coming away. I've seen some one break the bell housing trying to remove the box without doing this, and I've also seen some one destroy the clutch pressure plate.

Have you removed the clutch fork pivot? (Doh! too slow.. at work... refresh fail! )

Spray the open (block side) or the dowel pin holes with penetratring spray (wd40 etc).
Spray the up the shaft of the two long bottom studs too.

Let it sit for an hour or 2.

P.s mine had seized on the dowels & bottom studs.

Are you supporting the gearbox on a jack or something? If not you'll have no chance of getting them separated.
