Default Acceleration Issues

Gday. Chasing ideas for problem Im having. 1996 Wrx Ra. Car recently would seem to backfire/break down under Heavy acceleration. This would happen around 4000/5000 rpm. Found that two coil packs had small cracks in them under rubber boot so replaced with some second hand ones and the car pulled hard right through rev range. Thought prob was fixed as it was good for day or so. Now doing the same again under hard acceleration in any gear. occasionally when this happens its like the car turns off briefly with tacho hitting zero rpm and all dash lights come on. This happens for second or two before comming back to life. Also noticed exhaust really sooted up even after going hard. Any ideas where to start would be awesome. Cheers Mitch

Tacho going to 0 is either a loss of crank angle sensor output or possibly an ignition switch issue......

What ecu do you have?

Could be a bad map or something, maybe causing it to run rich/richer...

Default Acc issue

Pretty sure stock ecu. Only had car 3/4 months. Plugging into diagnostic doo hickey to day at mates workshop. See if that tells us any thing. From asking around been told that AFM, crankangle sensor. Map sensor and maybe O2 sensor? Somewhere to start looking. Will also check ignition thanks.
Not sure what done to car as the guy I bought from imported the RA and said the only thing he did to it was the exhaust, had good quality head gaskets and some better head studs put in. The only other thing i can see not stock is the Apexi pod and intake tube.

Do you have an immobiliser fitted? I've seen them fitted without being soldered in, just wires twisted together! A poor connection like that would cause what you describe.

Anyhow, having similar issues atm.

Changed AFM for a known working one, cleared most of the issues up.

Still has a miss at 1 bar, I suspect its my coils.

I concur. Misfiring as said IMO most likely coils/plugs/ignition of some description.
