Default Fuel Pump

Hi All,

Well, finally got home, no idea how I'll get up to go to work.

Tonight my car (MY99 WRX) started and then after about 20seconds died slowly. Managed to start it again, and after 5seconds it dies again.
The fuel pump is not working. When turning the key to 'On' I can't hear it and we've disconnected the line from the fuel filter and started cranking and nothing comes out of it (yes, the tank is full).
I hear click, then the pump should prime but nothing happens, and then the second click.
How can I check if it might be a relay? Where is the relay for the fuel pump? Are there any tests I can do before buying a new pump?
Should I replace it with a Walbro or get a genuine from Subaru/somewhere else?
Performance wise car is standard. Thanks heaps guys,

Adi

After you check the fuel pump relay. Also check the plugs under the rear seats for any sign of melting.

If it turns out to be the pump. Go a Walbro. Vision R in O'connor sells them for $150.

Do you know where the fuel pump relay is? I do hear it click when i turn the ignition to 'On'. Could this still be the relay? How do I check it with a multimeter if it is the relay?
Also, where is the fuel pump fuse?
Thanks,

Adi

Hey guys,

I just checked voltage at the fuel pump plug and it's showing 6V. Is that normal?
Checked the white plug under the rear seat and same voltage there. Does it only get 12V when you crank it?

Hi all,

Sunday night my car didn't want to start. Checked the voltage at the fuel pump and it showed 6V which is approximately what it should be.
It must be the fuel pump then. Went and bought a new fuel pump this morning, came home, replaced it and it's still not starting.
I've connected it straight to the battery and it starts turning.
Realized that I was checking the voltage across wrong pins. Was checking the fuel pump +ve and another ground (from the level sensor).
When I would put my code in, I could hear the click, but no second click. Now, I can't hear any clicks.
Before towing my car to have Brant checked out, how hard is it to replace the fuel pump relay? Will have to go tomorrow and buy one from Subaru. Is it just: unplug the existing one, put new one in, and put the plug on? It's frustrating because I can't take any time off from work this week to work on this so I have to do everything after work. Thanks,

Adi
