bonnet vents open in the rain
saturday night (last night) there was a lot of drizzle in perth. i had parked my car out in the open (no other choice) and the bonnet vents are open. how suseptable is the AFM and other electrics in the area to being water damaged? is a few hours of drizzle enough to cause a problem?
the drive home gave no problems, the car doesnt actually have a problem, this post is just to learn about how vunerable the engine is to water/drizzle getting in through the vents. matto. |

Ive always wondered that too..
There's been quite a bit of rain recently, and our cars cant always be parked undercover. |

unfortunately i have to deal with this every day, work doesn't provide undercover parking... i've never had an issue with my AFM in the 6 months i've had the car.
Although now that i've said this, the car probably won't start tomrorow morning. In any case, i seriously doubt you should have any issues. |

isn't the AFM covered anyway?
water will more likely come from an unoiled pod filter and for the rest of the bits in the bay? well, you got a scoop for the rex, there's always going to be water going in |

If you have the cover/guard bits that sit underneath the bonnet and clip onto the vents (as long as you havent removed them for "airflow!!" or whatever) then you should be fine, subaru make a car knowing it will rain at some stage or another, the AFM is fully sealed anyway.

gday. yes, i have removed the vent covers, i suspect a lot of people do it? a lot of trapped hot air escapes through the vents, they're great. |

Is there any real point to it though? Is it beneficial?
