Default Which belt is this again?

Yes I know, I should know but it's been a while since............. never mind. Anyway, what's it called again and how do I tighten the bastard? Can I replace this fairly easily myself?

I'm assuming it's these 2 belts that create all the screeching noise etc soon as I kick the car over in the morning and more so when I turn the steering wheel and the power steering kicks in. The one on the left has a fair bit of play in it but the one on the right is a bit tighter. It's all going in for a serious service soon, soon as my new rotors arrive.

Gurus, sledge me at will.

Left belt is alternator/Power steering. Right belt is A/C
If its a stretch fit A/C belt like in the photo, there is no adjustment. So can't sort that.
But, loosen both alternator mounting bolts, then wind the bolt on top of the P/S bracket clockwise, tighten's thet alt belt.
You should just about be able to turn the belt sideways on itself at the longest part. DO not over tighten it, it will damage the alternator bearings.

I figured it was the power steering. It slips like a mother f.....r and I'm sick of it. How do I replace this with a newie. I want it done yesterday.

It's on a version 6 STI. I just grabbed this pick off the net cos it had a good side shot of what I meant.

Similar, remove the belt guard, loosen the alternator mounting bolts, turn the bolt on the bracket anti-clockwise and the alternator will move down, loosening the belt.
Remove old belt, fit new belt, you may have to wind it on by turning the crank, they can be a bit tight.
Then tighten as above. tighten lower alt mounting bolt, fit guards, tighten other mounting bolt(which holds the guard) tighten all other bolts,
Win.

Next question, where do I source this bastard? What are they worth? Couldn't be a huge amount could they?

You can go to Auto-one, Repco, all you need are the numbers off the belt.
Should be 5PK then the length of the belt.
Or your local Subaru dealership will have them for around $60
I work at a dealership and we always have them in stock.
