Default Front wheels disengaged?

Hey guys, I searched for an answer for this but didn't really get anywhere. I've got a bugeye wrx, recently had a 6 speed box put in it, just driving home then I could have sworn the front wheels disengaged?! Can this happen? It was for about 30 seconds the ass end would whip out through every round about? I stopped to even check to see if I had a flat tyre or something? After taking off again it felt normal. I've hammered it many times in the rain with very minimal rear wheel spinnage. I'm stumped. Anyone else had this?
Cheers
Dan

No you don't lose the front drive magically.

What year 6 speed went in the car? (DCCD or not?)
Was the rear diff changed to suit the 6 speed and if so, what was put in?

Obviously not magic! I just thought the ratio can change. It's from an 02 Sti, non dccd. Changed the rear diff yes, think it's just the r160 but not 100%

Did you put a plated rear diff in at the same time?

I'd guestimate that it is just the difference of the centre/rear diffs compared to the open wrx ones allowing you to power out a more than normal. Check what rear diff was put in (1-way, 1.5-way or 2-way) as that may be the reason, doubtful but never know. Otherwise get the workshop to check and/or have your alignment/tyres checked.

Must say, I haven't had the car's back end whipping out at every round about unless I was trying to do it.

I'd suggest re-visiting driving style until you know what's going on!
