What Tuna said, I did it to very my rattly WRX 6yrs ago then it sat for 4yrs untouched but now after 2yrs of use it still runs perfect, we just drained the old oil, put 5L of diesel in it then let it run for about 10min until it was up to temp giving it a very light rev every few min, the amount of gunk that came out was amazing.

Learn something every day - I always thought that was a old man's tale.

Just diesel? Stuff. Didnt think diesel had lubricating properties to make it safe to run for 10mins!

Hmmm. Might try the diesel trick next service. Also make sure if you guys do put a flush/ diesel through it, to change your oil filter, and not do what some people I've seen do and just drop and refill the oil.. -_-

Diesel works for sure. Gets rid of the rattly rs heads issue for a few months.

Diesel is just a thin oil with detergents added, I'd probably use petrol in the box if I wanted to get rid of all traces of old oil if I was changing from/to something like Redline which doesn't mix well, just fill it up and lift off the ground and spin the box a few times to dilute what is in there but otherwise I wouldn't bother.
