Default Service history

Just wanted to know from the more mechanically knowledgable guys and girls out there, how bad is it for a peanut 02 WRX to only get serviced once a year for say 7 years? However, the car travels only as much as the service intervals in that year.

Depends how hard it is driven. Depends if the drives are usually short ones or longer ones.
In general, i'd say it's ok to service it once a year and every 10,000km.
I service mine every 6months which is usually every 6000-7000kms though.

Unfortunately I have no idea how hard or long the drives are so I can't give an estimate there. All I have is the log book to go by. I'm wondering if it's worth the risk to take the plunge knowing the car is not serviced at the recommended intervals.

Just pay a bit of money and get a comprehensive check of the vehicle done before you buy it (Mechanic of your choice), if the seller has anything to hide or there are issues with the car, they should pop their head up at this point.

I work away and probably drive 5 - 6k a year, saying that I still change my oil every 6 months if not sooner. Especially when I have driven the car hard at places like Collie, the drags etc. I think I have changed it 3 times this year. It may not be necessary, but it makes me feel more comfortable about driving my car hard.

Log books are worth less than the paper they are written on.

I am going to get the car checked for sure, but I'm wondering can mechanics see/detect faults in various components such as gearbox, turbo, and other miscellaneous hardware in the car and inform me if it's on it's way out abit sooner than expected?

Mechanics that specialise in a specific brands and models will know what to look for and what noises are normal, and what noises are bad.

They are not fool proof though and some faults just cant be seen.

At least it has a log book, even if it was serviced at the KM intervals.
Iv'e only serviced mine once this year, it's only traveled 2500km's though

I don't see why anyone would go overboard servicing a car just because they don't do a lot of miles, I changed the oil in mine then parked it for 4yrs, drove it for 6 months, parked it for 6 months then drove it for about another 6 months before I changed the oil and it's still fine.

+1 from past experience I wouldnt take whats been stamped in a log book for a grain of salt. if your not able to check the condition yourself get it checked by a competent person, but in saying that im sure it will all be fine.
