Default Turbo Silicone Inlet question

Hey guys,

In light of an upcoming turbo upgrade I am also getting some supporting mods. One of said mods is a PSR/Hypertec silicone turbo inlet pipe.

I am just confused if I need to buy another silicone pipe to connect it to the air box (I am not buying a CAI, retaining the stock airbox + STI panel filter) as I have seen a few pics floating around of the turbo inlet connecting straight to the OEM airbox.

i.e. do I need this?

Hypertec Silicon Short "FAT" Piece suit 01-07 WRX/STi - Pro Speed Racing

I know it says it connects between the air box and turbo inlet, but that is a an OEM turbo inlet.

or do I need just the inlet?

If you go a silicone pipe for the turbo inlet as well as a short fat one, you'll need to find a way to couple the two silicone pipes together. Hassle Dougy when he comes back, because I know he quickly fabbed up a metal ring to do that for my car before realising the turbo inlet pipe I had was incorrect for the car. Hence, that and the coupler never got used.

Alternatively, just buy the full length AVO one in the image you posted

You need to be careful which size AFM you have too, I've got the short fat bit sitting here as it is 80mm and my AFM is 90 being STI.

Yeah but the AFM is pre "post fat bit", as shown in the pic above, so it shouldn't make a difference? Pretty sure the WRX AFM is happy with 65mm as my APS CAI retains a 65mm diameter to prevent issues with the AFM.

Didn't know the STI stock intake diameter was 80mm?
