Much closer to home i'm afraid. Its built by one of Perth's supposed Subaru "specialists". I should know. Its my engine.

Is that a built EJ257 short motor or stock? If built, who built it and with what parts? Pistons look like the stock ones or are they forged CPs?

Its a built engine with CP pistons and forged rods (at least i hope so, will find out when its taken apart). It started with a brand new EJ257 block with zero kms.
I wanted a "bullet proof" engine and ended up with the world's first "turbo diesel" STI....it sure sounds like it. The engine was always noisy from day 1 and progressively got worse..it finally became unbearable so i've put back the original 2.0 EJ207 block. Now its clear why it rattled all along and literally "drank" 500ml of synthetic oil every 2-3 days. The best part is this is the second engine he has supposedly built for me...the first was exactly the same..and on threat of legal action..it was rebuilt with a "fresh" block. My instructions were very clear on the 2nd block.."do not hone the block". The factory CPs are built to fit the stock EJ257 bore without needing to hone (3.5 thou clearance is CP's recommended spec). The pics show (the engine strip down was documented with photo's and video) that the bore is far from stock so its unlikely to be a new shortblock. Cant say anymore about the builder as its likely that i will be starting legal action against the workshop. |

Not good.
Even on a brand new block you'd still run a bead hone down the bores a little to roughen up the surface to allow the new pistons rings to bed in. |
