I got the Bugeye.

Cheers for the above input. Will post some pictures up soon.

Will do the replacement headlights first then look into turbo replacements.

Oh and it has a few MRT performance stickers under the bonnet, could hint towards it having an ECUTek tune?

Still has only the factory boost controller, 3" exhaust + FMIC and a stock TD04 but I guess it gets up and goes ok just doesn't have a neck snapping kick when the turbo kicks in. Some like that, some don't.. guess I just like that performance punch.

Will start looking into the following to cure my need for power "after I replace the headlights"

1. Fuel pump - could be done will need to check.
2. Stock injectors on a MY01 are not as good as the yellow tips I had in the MY99 from what I can remember.. Might look into some yellow tops, I've read even a VF35 wont fully utilize the duty cycle on yellow tops.
3. Dont know what to look for "wear and tear wise" in a second hand turbo will search the forum for some more info on this.
4. Find a workshop and ask them about all the above questions.

MRT generally = Ecutek tune but I would still have it checked out though, sticker means nothing.

Get rid of whatever EBC you have on the car...useless, period (even with a tune).

FMIC + TD04 = fail. Have it serviced (all fluids replaced, upper engine cleaner, etc), revert back to a TMIC and then have it retuned (preferably all at once).

Can always go a tried and trusted VF34 + STI TMIC + STI "pinks" injectors + Retune if you are after that mid-range kick.

All Star Garage, Maximum Motorsport, RaceTorque can all help as far as tuning, labour and servicing goes. STechnic can help you with any labour/servicing (the best imo for labour and service).

Happy modding

If it's got silicone vacuum lines make sure they have replaced the olive on the turbo line, it's amazing how many people don't know about it and ditch it.

I always thought my Bug was a gutless pile of snot but only drove it a few hundred Km before I sold it to a mate, turns out it didn't have the olive lol, I'd never thought to look but I found Corry's (now TJ's) didn't have one much to his surprise ................makes a difference.

I've got a Possum Link computer that was taken out of an 01 Bug that was tuned for a front mount, 3" TBE & TD04 sitting at home you can try if yours is stock but I'm in Thailand till the 11th .

Don't buy a second hand turbo if you can, save yourself the frustration and buy new

Olive as in the small restrictor pill found in the vacuum line?

That Possum Link sounds PERFECT I will be in touch!! I just pulled the protector plate off the ECU - looks untouched no ECUTek stickers or marks at all.

Re other post: it's running the factory boost/solenoid & I'd like to keep the FMIC and see how it goes.

I do have a spare 04 TMIC in good condition, I'll hold onto it just incase.

iirc
MY99= side feed 440cc
2001= top feed 440cc

you shouldn't need to change them unless you're going anything bigger than a vf34
