VF43
... The VF43 utilizes a thrust bearing design and the P15 exhaust housing. The difference between the VF43 and the VF39 used previously on STI's is the size of the wastegate. The VF43 has a larger wastegate designed to reduce boost creep issues.
Sorry FAIL on the above bits of info (Repost from OzLiberty forum)

VF39 is a PZ18 exhaust housing..
also

VF43 is a PZ18 exhaust housing.....
which makes sense as Subaru would not put a smaller P15 exhaust housing on the larger 2.5lt EJ257 engine for the OZ/US MY06-07 STi.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
08 STI

VF48 is from all reports, visually the same as the VF30/39/43. Same compressor wheels.

Changes at this stage seem to be to the wastegate actuator and arm compared to the VF43.

I definitely get surge when i floor it in 4th while building up boost. Makes a funny little chchchch noise for a 2-3 seconds while it's spooling.

Doesn't appear to effect the onset of boost/torque though.

Ive had a VF 22,23,34
34 was the only turbo that surged for me
Might be a common problem by the sounds of it.

I think it's common when you have a silicone intake.

It was fine on the 2ltr. But when I built the 2.2 thats when it started.
There is about 4 other 34s I know with the same problem.

I don't think it's really a 'problem', it's just the turbo trying to flow more than the motor can ingest. I suspect you'd want some headwork and cams to prevent it?
