Default 2006 WRX questions

Hey guy/girls, so ive always dreamed of owning a WRX sinse i was pretty young. Long story short ive finished my apprenticeship and ive got some money saved and its time to lash out so to speak. I have found an 06 WRX and it looks prett tidy. It has a GFB hybrid BOV (not something id put on the car myself, but i guess it can just stay their), an after market boost control 11psi-14psi and the exhaust can be turned up and down as i please (good for keeping the neighbours happy during the early morning starts)

Anyway. Ive done a bit of research and to my knowledge a BOV can damage the engine, however being a hybrid it is designed not to do any damage. Is this correct and should i no he concerned about this? Is the Rex capable of running of running at 14psi without damaging the turbo? And does the noise control cause any problems i should check for?

Also if you know of any other things i should look for could you please let me know. Basically this is a very lighlty modded car which is what id prefer to buy. So any help would be great

Thanks Tony

Fairly sure 14psi is about standard.

Best bet is to take it to Maximum Motorsport, All Star Garage, S-tecnic or other garage listed in the mechanical thread, for a pre purchase inspection prior to purchase.

I wood take it to Stechnic, All Star Garage, Maxiuim motorsports, and get them to give it the once over .. Not sure off the cost of these
That way you can can ask question's and they can give you a report on the car so you know if it's a good buy or walk away..

There are some on the forum that will be more helpful then me and also do a search on the this you are concerned about

Hope this help's

Is it a private sale, or car yard? Does it have service history? Maybe do some research on the car, ring the last place to service it and ask them to check their records... Before making the decision to pay someone to check it out further.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a used car that is un-tuned running an aftermarket boost controller. Would rather start with a stock car with a FSH (from Subaru or reputed workshop) as you know all that has been done to it are all the scheduled services.

As Impresiv said look around. Plenty of good examples of MY06's up for sale.

Here's one I prepared eariler. WA Dealer seller. Stock, 55,000kms in world rally blue. Bit pricey but you get the idea in terms of what to look for as a decent buy.

It was listed at 19990 but he recently changed it to 21990 because he had to much interest and he isnt in a rush to sell. I think he was getting a heap of low ball offers so he raised it to try and get what he was originally asking.

I would of thought 20k was average price for a 06 WRX?

Some people are still selling the 06 STI for close to 40!
