Hi folks,

I was thinking about dropping a short shifter into my WRX 2011, is there anywhere in Perth I can buy on off the shelf?

I have checked out the STI gear from Subaru, the retail to over $450! The gear I see floating around online starts from $99.00

Any ideas?

Did you install yourself? I have seen a clip on youtube for a DIY job, it didn't seem too hard...

There is a large difference between a shortened gear lever and a "short shift" mechanism.

Hence, one is $99 and the other is more expensive.

I have installed the Ultrex short shifter on my old car (08 WRX), took about 30 to 45 minutes to do it.
Happy to help out (passing on info or tips) if you need it.

If you want to get the 5 speed short shifter mechanism, you can get it from the US for approximately $300.
Can get it here from Subaru Genuine Parts.
If you don't have access to the correct tools and equipment (socket sets, jack stands, jacks, etc) then it might be worth while asking some of the workshops located around the place to see what it would cost to get them to install it for you.

Edit: would like to recommend that you get some upgraded bushings for the gear shifter mechanism, upgraded mine a while back and there slop is now gone

Im using one for my STI. Because it's a full kit, it requires to drop gearbox a bit, I recommend to let EVO-R do it. U can also buy some other genuine performance parts from them, such as group n engine and tranny mount. They are much cheaper than local dealers' asking price.

you can install it your self, you will need either a hoist or jack stands, pull the center console out, take the 4 12 mm bolts of, then under the car take the 12mm nut of lower rod and 12mm nuts of the shifter rod. all pulls out should take you no more than an hour
