yeh its resonance caused by the revs as you go down. it happens around the 3 --> 2k rev range.

Hey guys having a similar problem in my STOCK My99 WRX, thought i'd bump this thread as its relevant.

I AM getting quite a pronounced rattle when decelerating in the 2-3k rev range.
I have checked all heat shields that i am aware of, turbo exhaust shield, and pretty much all of the main exhaust shields, and they seem fine, quite stiff and not budging at all.

I really hope that this is not a big end bearing failure, as i am flat broke at the moment having not been able to work after getting stress fracture to the foot (doh!).

Is there anyone on the forums who could have a listen and tell me the bad news?

I'm hoping it is just the uppipe, cant seem to isolate the noise, as i can only hear it when driving, doesnt occur when revving out of gear even when up to 4k rpm.

cheers

What sort of rattle? high/low frequency. I had a 'creak' in my bugeye that was due to a missing bolt in an engine mount (motor was twisting itself slightly).

I doubt its your engine if its only on deceleration and only during a small rpm range.

What clutch are you running? Some Exedy heavy duty clutches have been known to develop a rattle in the sprung center. If you have a light weight flywheel it can increase gear chatter on deceleration too.

i had that problem a year or so ago , but i don't want to curse anyone by saying big end .. so i wont , id get a compression test if you are worried and find out before you really fuck something. but i also get a quick rattle around the 3k mark still when its cold , ASG think it is the heads and said it didn't get shimmed properly when it was re built , not a problem dow.

but yer , get a compression test if you think its a big end and good luck
