Default A/C Comressor, Dead?

Perfect timing if it is as the car is going in for a service on Monday, but yeah - Press A/C button in car, no cool air, not even a dip in the revs as the compressor kicks in.

Thought it might have been on the way out for a while now.

What are these worth brand new?

Cheers

Same thing happened to me last month, turned out the gas had leaked out, there is a pressure switch in the line that will turn of the a/c if there is no gas in the system. All I needed was a new O-ring and re-gas now good as gold in time for summer!

No worries, thanks for the heads up, sounds like a cheaper option. Suspect $600+ for a new one @ $ubaru then a re-gas on top of that.

I got one in the shed Rich... thought it was the problem with my car but my pipes were blocked. Doug fixed it so I never ended up putting the compressor in. Let me know if thats the problem!

The compressor won't work if there is no gas in the system so 99% O ring but possibly hose or condenser.

How do I check re: Gas?

I have noticed sometimes when driving with the A/C on in the past, the car kinda cuts out a bit from time to time. Like it's about to stall, but recovers really quickly. Hardly ever use the A/C unless really hot day.

How much for the comp Jas if I need it? Is it new?

Cheers

Easy, there are a couple if tits on the pipes, one near the compressor and one near the firewall from memory, they look just like the valve caps on your tyres but bigger, you'll find the same type of valve underneath it too, give it a very quick press with a key or screw driver, if the gas is highly pressurised it'll spurt out with a bit of oil, if it's empty it'll be the same as a flat tyre...nil to little pressure.

You need to hook it up to a air con machine, put dye in it and re gas it, in a couple of weeks go back and get them to check for leaks. Gassing it back up isn't going to solve anything considering you proberbly have a leak somewhere. Phone this guy he is a mobile auto electrician and will be able to help you out.Athol 0417 945 259
