Which clutch?
Hey everyone..
So I'm in the middle of my STI conversion, and now is time to look at a clutch for my 97 wrx. Now before I pulled the standard motor out, I believe I stuffed the thrust bearing or something. When the clutch was engaged (foot off the pedal) in neutral and in gear, it made a horrible loud buzzing/whining noise. Would that be the thrust bearing? Because now I've got the new motor it has what I believe to be the standard STI clutch still on it. Should I replace the thrust bearing and leave the standard clutch? Or should I opt for a new one? Which is best suited for a quick street car? I don't want to go so heavy that I make my standard gear box the weak link. I'm not too familiar with these stage 1-5 clutch kits |

If on a std 5 speed, stick with the stock spec clutch. When replacing the clutch always replace the thrust bearing.

Does anyone know how much power a standard gc8 STI clutch can handle until it starts to slip and fail?

Just but a single plate organic exceedy clutch, yes replay the thrust bearing, the standard clutch isn't bad but if you plan on modifying the car further you we want the added insurance of knowing you have a clutch that will take the abuse

sik em wrex told me they have exedy organic heavy duty clutch kits for i think 850.. its very well priced.. for them, not you.
I ended up going with an exedy brass button paddle clutch. simply because im on a super tight schedule and it was the best quality for money and quickest delivery time. at 750 it wasnt a bad buy. just yet to see how hard it is to drive and how well my gearbox holds up!! in my extensive search i did find this one on ebay from a uk company. its exedy and is good for 400bhp. also is an anti judder clutch. he quoted 60 GBP to post it to me in perth. pretty good deal the whole thing came to about $550 AUD. including shipping Exedy Racing Organic Clutch Kit Subaru Impreza WRX | eBay |
